My husband chose to be cremated, so I had time for friends and family gather for a memorial in memory. I collected photos of our more than twenty hours year spent together, creating a wonderful collage of photos for the service.

At the time, my youngest son was ten years old and still in Sunday school. It would snacks in the picturesque little cemetery every Sunday after class and eat on the stone wall beside the gravestone of his father.

In the first few days of feeling lost or at a particularly low, I would go to the cemetery and sit by the stone. Although I knew was not there, my husband told me about the fear or problems I face today.

My two older boys never mentioned a visit to the small cemetery shaded. If they had, they kept it for himself. Perhaps they will share that with me at some point in the future. There is also the possibility that they never mention. We've all learned to deal with different points of pain in our grief.

Gift for myself "is a reminder that today and every day is a gift not to be taken lightly.
